By Satthiya Kandi (Malaysia) 文:莎蒂雅·甘迪(马来西亚) If anyone asks me what I like about working in POPULAR, I will have to write a lengthy essay to express the adoration that I have had for this bookstore since I was still a child! I may not have been at POPULAR for very long, but it has been such an eye-opening experience as I have learnt so much about the book industry during my time here. When I first started working in POPULAR, I was so moved by my teammates’ commitment to deliver the best service to our customers through our motto of "We Greet, We Smile, We Serve". This continues to motivate me today! I am also constantly amazed that my teammates are more than happy to go beyond the call of duty to help and support one another. No words can describe how proud I am to be a part of this dynamic team. I believe that our top-notch performance can be attributed to the high standards that we have been trained to uphold. Although I am an administrative assistant, I get the opportunity to assist customers looking for Chinese titles in the store once in a while due to my proficiency in Mandarin. I find joy in helping to meet the needs of my customers, even though they are usually slightly taken aback in the beginning when an Indian staff approaches to help them in Mandarin. I joined Popular Malaysia the year we celebrated POPULAR’s 95th anniversary. The theme of our celebration dinner was “Superheroes”, and my team decided to stage a short sketch. Dressed in our best costumes, my teammates and I were looking forward to rock the night! That evening, I was dressed as “Supergirl”. We had such an amazing time, and I will always cherish the wonderful memories from the evening. Although I have only been in POPULAR for a short period of time, I have developed a strong sense of belonging as a member of my fantastic team.
