EDITOR’S NOTE There is no greater reward than seeing a child thrive Dear POPULAR family members, BookFest@Malaysia, POPULAR’s annual signature event in Malaysia, made a spectacular return in 2021 with a new format after a two- year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of being held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre like previous editions, the 15th BookFest@Malaysia was held concurrently at 47 POPULAR Bookstores across Peninsular Malaysia. Let us go on a magical journey with Popular Malaysia (p.4) as they unveil the many surprises that BookFest@Malaysia 2021 had in store! The extent of POPULAR’s commitment to our children’s education and to corporate social responsibility around the world may surprise many members of the POPULAR family. In this issue’s second special feature (p.10), Popular News speaks to Joe Mastrogiacomo, Popular Canada’s Chief Operating Officer, about their partnership with World Vision, the international humanitarian aid organisation whose focus includes helping the most vulnerable children around the world overcome poverty and experience the fullness of life. As POPULAR celebrated the festive season with the second edition of the POPULAR’s Christmas Decoration Competition in 2021, we head to the three participating regional offices in Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong to discover the thoughts and efforts that went into spreading the season’s cheer to all POPULAR staff (from p.14), starting with Popular Malaysia’s winning Christmas decoration as we congratulate them for their second win in a row! Popular Malaysia’s victory, as well as the strong showings from Popular Singapore and Popular Hong Kong, were only possible with the teamwork and creativity of all their staff. Indeed, many of POPULAR’s staff have remained steadfast and devoted to doing their best at work through the years. Through POPULAR’s annual Long Service Award event, we celebrate their dedication and commitment.
