POPULAR's history started in Singapore under the trade name of Cheng Hing Company, distributing Chinese story books and pictures. The humble bookstore soon grew into a multi-national corporation that was listed on the main board of The Singapore Exchange in 1997.
Presently, POPULAR maintains its headquarters in Singapore, where it publishes, distributes, and retails books for the local education and general market. It also organises BookFest@Singapore – the most significant book event in Singapore.
In 2006, POPULAR ventured into the property market by setting up POPULAR Land Pte Ltd.
